Vale PETER CARLSTEIN

The club was saddened to hear of the recent passing of Peter Carlstein.

A former past North Perth/Joondalup player he was an absolute legend of a bloke and someone who clearly had a large influence on those that he coached, cajoled, played with, sledged, abused, hit tennis balls at during fielding practice and someone who generally cared deeply about the game of cricket.

He played Test cricket for South Africa from 1958 to 1964.

Migrating to live in WA he played for Subiaco Floreat and North Perth in the 1980’s. He was a coach and mentor of many, having a massive influence on both our Junior and Senior players with some going on to represent WA, Australia and England!

His feedback was always brutally honest and you knew exactly where you stood with Carly, but, underneath that hard exterior was a soft caring man.

I don’t think there was a player he did not call “soft as butter” or a team that was a “bunch of cupcakes”!

Rumour has it, the photo of the batsman cutting the ball on the kookaburra boxes was in fact his!

We will definitely have a toast to honour the legend that was Peter Carlstein.
