The Western Australian Cricket Association was formed in 1885 with the first official matches taking place in the 1885-1886 season. Initially the competition was made up of North Perth, South Perth, East Perth, West Perth, Claremont-Cottesloe and two Fremantle Cricket Clubs. North Perth, which was established in 1898, initially played its matches on the Esplanade Reserve and in 1910 moved to Lotons Reserve which later became known as Perth Oval. This facility was shared with the East Perth Football Club. It is now known as HBF Park and is the home of Perth Glory and Rugby WA. As a consequence of the West Australian Football League’s policy to remove turf wickets from WAFL grounds, in 1974 the Club was relocated to a new facility provided by the City Of Perth at Charles Veryard Reserve which was located in Bourke Street, North Perth. This facility was shared with Old Modernians Hockey Club. Charles Veryard remained the home of North Perth until the conclusion of the 1998/99 season. North Perth won 1st grade premierships in 1904/05 ,1905/06, 1913/14, 1915/16,1916/17 ,1917/18, 1918/19,1935/36, 1938/39, 1957/58, 1959/60 and 1977/78 and the one day Sunday League Competition in 1978/79 and 1981/82.
Due to an ageing population within its boundary and the consequent reduction in players, particularly in the junior age groups, In 1993 the Club took the bold step of looking to relocate to the growth area of Joondalup. The initial idea was to share a new ground with the West Perth Football Club but that did not eventuate. However with the assistance of the City of Joondalup and the WACA a new ground location was found in the new development being under taken by the Satterley Group on behalf of the Archbishop of Perth in Iluka, some 30 kms from Charles Veryard. Once the location had been found a new body was formed incorporating the Padbury Bowling Club (now Joondalup Bowling Club) and Lakers Hockey Club and the North Perth Cricket Club . This body, which became known and Beaumaris Sports Association, began the task of obtaining funding to construct a club house and associated infrastructure. In July 1997 the City of Joondalup and the Department of Sport and Recreation approved funding for the new complex of $1.3m with the land on which the complex and ovals are located being donated by Beaumaris Land Sales. The contribution by North Perth Cricket Club was by way of the installation of 10 centre turf wickets and 16 turf practice wickets at a cost of $130,000. Construction was commenced in early 1998 and completed by early 1999 and the Complex was opened on 18th April 1999. The wickets were laid in November/December 1999.
Due to having to move from Charles Veryard Reserve at the conclusion of the 1998/99 season it was necessary to play the 1999/2000 season using Melvista Reserve as our home ground. The commencement of the 2000/2001 season saw the first matches played at our new home ground at Iluka. Following the move to Iluka it was decided to change the Club’s name to Joondalup Districts Cricket Club. The Club’s colours of green and gold were retained and the Club became known as the ‘Centurions’. A new club logo incorporating the Centurions theme was designed on the Club’s behalf by Andrew Farmer. It took a number of years to fully establish the Club in Iluka but the move has proved to have been very beneficial for the players and members of the Club. Since moving to Iluka the Club has played in four 1st grade grand finals, winning in 2012/2013 and 2014/2015, and winning the Sunday League One Day Competition in 2003/2004 and 2014/2015. The Club also won the Club Championship in 2014/2015 and was runner up in the 2011/12.
The Club has developed a very strong junior player base since moving to Iluka. Shortly after moving to Iluka the Club was permitted to be the only Club in the under age Competition to have two teams in each age group. A number of junior players have represented Western Australia at state junior level with Jaron Morgan and Clint Hinchliffe representing Australia at under 19’s international level. From the time the Club was founded a number of players have represented Western Australia, Australia and other Countries.
